A Short To-Do List

f.k.a. Present Tense

Just in case you, like me, are extremely distracted by the alternating white and golden plumes of smoke outside your window in NYC today, I have prepared a short list of things to do:

- Educate yourself on how to properly dispose of beauty product packaging, most of which is not recyclable via municipal streams due to size. Pact Collective has just announced that every single Sephora location in the US will have a beauty product packaging collection station. Make a personal commitment to save your empties and drop them off at your local Sephora. Reminder that utilizing this program also easily demonstrates to Sephora, an international beauty market dominator, how much you care about their sustainability efforts.

- If you’re ordering deliveries today, tip your delivery person A LOT. A lot a lot!

- Read this post by @thesustainablefashionforum for a brief on the importance of legislating sustainability instead of relying solely on voluntary corporate commitments, it relates to a lot of the EPR laws being designed in the US right now. EPR = Extended Producer Responsibility.

- Read this free article from Vogue Business about fashion’s relationship to modern slavery. Ask the brands from which you invest in purchases about their supply chains.

- If you’re in NYC, get ready to vote! Our primary election, which elects your most local representatives and can change and inform the way your neighborhood operates for everyone, is on June 27th. My early voting site changed this year, did yours?

- Since we’re talking neighborhood, do you know any old or immune-compromised people who might need some groceries or supplies while the air is toxic? It’s not too late to tap back in to your mutual aid group, even if you’ve been missing for a while. No one cares where you were, they just need your help.

- For the first time in its history, Human Rights Campaign declared a state of emergency for LGBTQ+ people in America. Even if you are not LGBTQ+, you can read the brief, the downloadable guidebook and the national warning to better understand the threat that is posed to our fellow humans and community members.

- Sign this petition promoted by earthrise.studio to protect life in the Amazon (which includes plants, animals, and also its indigenous inhabitants). Your support demonstrates global solidarity to the Brazilian Federal Senate.

Stay safe!
